Andrew OConnell aka Ox from Rockstar Racing has been a long time supporter of newly signed Ancillotti rider Wyn Masters.Heres what Ox had to say about the signing. Words and Images courtesy of Ox.

Rockstar Racing are proud to congratulate Wyn Masters and Ancillotti on his signing to the Ancillotti DH team for  2009.

Having sponsored Wyn since 2002 this comes as no surprise to us. Nor are we surprised that he really turned  some heads on his first self funded low  budget hitch hiking instant noodles single set of  tires World Cup season.

Although little known outside antipodean downhill circles the 21 year old Taranaki rider is the product of nearly 10 years exposure to elite Dh racing and all round stylish bike riding. His talent first being spotted by Glen Sisarich and both Wyn and Sam Blenkinsop were profoundly influenced by Glen's powerful moto style and incredible skill set.

Wyn exploded onto the race scene as the only junior in the 'super factory' Lahar team of 2003. Under the guidance of Lahar team mates Nathan Rankin and Tim Nelson the 14 year old Wyn, in the absence of an u15 class completely dominated the U17 Nz championship.

Around this time Wyn and his little brother Eddie started digging. Digging deep into the volcanic soil of their olds back yard in New Plymouth. The resulting dirt jumps are arguably the North Islands finest and only served to polish up Wyn's already immaculate bike handling skills.

Once Sam Blenkinsop had found his feet and got the support he deserved Wyn was the only other junior who could keep him honest on any track. A lack of finance meant Wyn was unable to attend the 2005 Worlds in Italy and wouldn't you know it by the time the Worlds were in Sulpher City he was too old and racing pro.

Since leaving school Wyn has based himself in Cairns and has been funding his downhill racing by working in the mines and labouring for a downhill friendly landscaping company. Over the last 2 summers he has raced a mix of the best New Zealand and most convenient Australian nationals. Wyn has a relatively high profile in Oz  having had a number of pics in Revolution & Australian Mountain Bike magazines. His recent full page photo in Dirt from the Canberra World Cup is a testament to this profile and the great privateer year that he has had.

On a personal level  Wyn is a lot of fun. When you go out after a race he will crack you up without being a clown . He's got a dry sense of humour and an acidic wit which when combined with his private school education means that when it comes to taking the piss he is truly a class act. If anybody's head is in danger of not fitting into their helmet Wyn will be the first to tell them!

So good luck to Wyn who will be on his new Ancillotti early in the new year. On a final note I think he's gonna have a big year with the Italian chicks. A guy who is a dead ringer for Valentino Rossi is definitely going to have a great time in Italy!
