Same beer, same tattoo, same fun... different country...
The New Zealand Singlespeed Championships is moving to the Mainland for 2010 - the event will be in Queenstown (Rotorua of the south) next Anzac Weekend at a secret location in the Wakatipu Basin. Queenstown MTB Club and RSSS member Carey Vivian first expressed interest even before the 1st event in 2008. He's a persistent bugger so we thought we'd let him have a go! Actually, the turn out from the south was great for champs v1 and v2 here in Rotorua. Entries will open on October 1, so there is plenty of time to plan your trip and score a cheap airfare for v3. The champs will return to Rotorua on Anzac Weekend, 2011. Our generous sponsor, Gregg Brown from the Pig & Whistle, has already expressed support when they do. The RSSS are planning to have a cruisy event - poker run and/or group ride with a few beers at the Pig afterwards - early in 2010, and hopes to help send riders to Queenstown. Stay tuned... Two of our spots in Durango for the 09 Worlds have been snapped up! The other 2 are on hold. We hope to confirm them soon. Definitely confirmed as racing in the USA in September, as official representatives of the RSSS (and New Zealand), are Vicki Butterworth from the Hawkes Bay and John McCartney from Queenstown. You will remember Vicki from this year's NZ Champs. She was in full 1940's Art Deco regalia with the bike to match and won the big spot prize from Bike Vegas. John is on the 2010 Queenstown Organizing Committee. Vicki and John have both been sent the entry form to colour in and send. Both are members of the RSSS and you can be too, if you are not already.
