Cam Coles been hot on the journalistic trail Intro Jimmy Wilson is becoming a well known grommie from Christchurch and is almost always found riding his bike in and around the popular Bowenvale area. The depth and quality of the junior fields in Canterbury are second to none these days and these guys are currently leading the way for our nations talent pool.
Wilson rips on a bike wether it be Downhill racing, Dirt Jumping, Park and even a hint of free ride type riding. He has a style like no other and definitely stands out from the other Cashmere High School students when seen as I drive up the road in the morning. Usually seen in our hood wearing a baggy tee shirt, a pair of jeans, the latest Nike kicks topped off with a set of Skull Candy ear phones and most likely listening to Jay-z. Below we get more of an insight into the mind of Jimmy Wilson.
Age: 17 Favourite food: Salmon Favourite beverage: Charlie's Orange Juice Favourite Track: Anything G, maybe Jay-z Favourite Course: Dunedin Nat's 2010 version
You were close to getting on the worlds team last year for Canberra after some good results in the national series in the lead up but you missed out, How did you feel? I was kinda gutted but wasn't too worried because it would be cool to go to Mount Saint Anne. I have more time to get ready for it too compared to Canberra. What are your main goals for 2010? Go to worlds at MSA, keep working on getting into pro but need some more time and to train harder over the winter. How did you think the guys went at worlds last year? The majority went good but Brook smashed it
Did they all deserve to be there you think? Yeah most were OK maybe a couple could have been thought about a bit more So you ride for Owen (O dog) your dad right? Yer hard Hows that going? You have a good set up at the races hows the hiace? Yeah he's funding it. Its mint! Dad needs to hurry up and put the tints in though.
What do you get up to in the winter? I go skiing most weekends How did you get into that? Dad has done it for ages so I've been skiing since I was 3 Does it help DH? Yeah it helps with leg strength for taking impacts and stuff Luke Strobel likes the snow a lot too and has similar thoughts about DH and snow, you remind me a lot of him. I suppose that's a good thing
He's coming here on the 9th of Feb to race are you looking forward to meeting him? He sounds like a pretty loose unit. It will be good to see how similar we are Are you a real man yet? Ask Vero Any Thanks? Thanks to the Leov's and everyone at Bike Otago, Smacka for the Pics, O dog (that's my dad), Skull Candy, Cam for putting up with me for this, Vero and her Parents for accommodating me!
