A big thanks to everyone who came out and Jeff Carter of Southstar adventures for making this event possible and to the sponsors, Rotorua Cycle Centre and Animal. A huge thanks to all the helpers on the day, especially those on timing and all the usual event crew - the Bakers, Pete Clouston and Doug Robertson.
Series points will be out in the next couple of days and we will post out your medals. There were a few late registrations for series points that had to be added in so there was not enough time to calculate them all on the day [TRANSLATION: Kai couldn't be f*%$ed]. //PRIZE GIVING There were over 160 competitors in the weekend, making a great event, and bigger than many national races. [+]SEE FULL PHOTO GALLERY HERE Over 100 photos from professional photographer and over eater Mike Hill.
Well, Cam Cole has clearly proven he is deserving of his world champion's title with a massive 5 and a half second win over his nearest rival Sam Blenkinsop. Cam, on a 03:02.76 Hayden Lee coming down with a sizzling time on 03:08.24, Just 0.03 Sec behind Blenkinslop even with a lump of fluid in his knee so large it looked like a breast in the middle of his leg. //CAM COLE:ON THE P-PIPE
The Junior Classes were closely fought too, with both classes coming down to a tie for first place in series points meaning everything came down the placing on the day. Michael Langford snatched the U19 title for the 2006 NZRIDE North Island Downhill Series and Vaughan Woolhouse took the U17, coming in first on the day also. Vaughan was absolutely ripping, with a 03:20.90, just 0.75 Seconds behind Scott Bedford and the $100 cash prize. Which would have also put him just outside the top 10 in open class. Watch out for this boy at Nat's man, he's gona be feaast! Infact, the shear size and speed of the under 17 class is scary! On average, the top ten riders in u17 are less than a second behind the top ten in the u19s. I think it's pretty safe to say the sport has a big future in New Zealand and more than a couple of potential champions.
. //Blair Christmas is thought to have been riding in disguise. [+]SEE FULL PHOTO GALLERY HERE Over 100 photos from professional photographer and over eater Mike Hill.
remember, if your keen to ride the track again, you can catch the southstar shuttle service any weekend for only $40 for the day (gets you 8-10 runs) it's a great track, great service and well worth the trip to rotorua. checkout www.southstaradventures.com
